How to make the most of your publications in the humanities?

The workshop jointly organized by FOSTER Plus and DARIAH-EU will focus on domain-specific practices of opening up scholarly communication in Arts and Humanities. Publishing is a relevant topic for each and every researcher regardless on career status or research interest. The workshop aims to draw a picture on the changing landscape of scholarly communication and to help equip researchers at all career stages (focusing on early-career researchers) with the skills they need to excel in this open environment.

To share best practices and generate fruitful discussions on trends, innovations, and present-day challenges in Open Access publishing in the Arts and Humanities, different stakeholder perspectives will be brought together such as representatives of next-generation publishing platforms, research infrastructures, librarians, and researchers from different areas and career stages.

Open Access and the Humanities: A Train the Trainer Perspective

The goal of this ‘train the trainer’ Humanities Open Access event has three parts. First, to set a base level of knowledge and mutual understanding around the topic, the actors, and the tools and methods available. Secondly, to understand the specific challenges to training humanities researchers, as well as the specific issues and challenges faced by humanists. Thirdly, to imagine future collaborations, and a recurring programme of events and activities to enable them. This initiative arises from a collaboration between DARIAH, the Open Library of Humanities (OLH), EIFL, and FOSTER Open Science. It will consist of a series of talks establishing the context for humanities open access, the tools and resources available and their attendant issues, and the platforms and funding models that have the potential to deliver fee free, equitable and gold open access for humanists. Finally, we will end with a question and answer session and a discussion of further activities.

Finding and reusing data

This webinar is intended for everyone who wants to learn about ways of finding and reusing research data. Managing your research data in a FAIR and transparent manner is important. It helps researchers to meet requirements of funding institutions and ensures long-term re-usability of their data.

The webinar introduces the CESSDA ERIC Data Catalogue as a means of finding and accessing research data. It enables participants to understand conditions for reuse (licenses) and introduces use-cases. 

Meeting funders’ requirements - archiving and data sharing

This introductory webinar is for anyone who is involved in the collection of data and is considering making (some of) their data available in accordance with funders’ requirements. More and more funders are requiring that research data be made available after completion of the research project, usually through the archiving of data in a trusted repository. However, research teams often still lack the appropriate skills and knowledge regarding how to properly prepare their data for archiving and sharing.

This webinar aims to raise awareness about relevant key data management practices for sharing, specifically regarding data documentation, gaining consent, and data anonymisation. Addressing each of these three topics, it provides a short theoretical introduction, including what FAIR means and how it is implemented, as well as practical illustrations drawing on a large-scale cross-national survey (the European Social Survey). It also provides some practical tips with respect to data archiving, in particular how to choose an appropriate archive or repository.

Open Science and Research Results Exploitation: friends or foes?

This OpenAIRE and EOSC-hub webinar covers Horizon 2020 rules and good practices approaches to addressing issues about Open Data, Open Science and research results exploitation in Consortium Agreements and Data Management Plans. It also specifically covers the issues of concern between Open Science and exploitation (patents, spin offs/ outs, confidentiality), business planning and licensing strategies.

Data Archiving and Netwrked Seorvices (DANS) is the Netherlands institute for  permanent access to digital research resources.

Since 2005, DANS has been supporting researchers, data professionals, other data archives, research institutions and research financiers with questions in the field of data management, certification and topics such as FAIR, open access and software sustainability.

In addition to data services, DANS also offers training and consultancy.
